Remedial Massage

Remedial Massage provides a healing treatment that can be gentle or strong, deep or shallow. Remedial massage holistically treats the body, identifing biomechanical dysfunctions to treat the cause of disorders as well as the symptoms.

The key benefits of remedial massage include stimulation of blood supply to and the the removal of toxins from the bodies muscles. Eases pain and discomfort and relaxes muscles to improve joint mobility. Improves the health of the bodies cells, repairs tissue and eases stiffness and tension within the bodies muscle system.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger point therapy is a bodywork technique that involves the application of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. It may also be called myofascial (myo meaning muscle, fascial meaning connective tissue) trigger point therapy. Trigger point therapy is sometimes regarded as one of a group of treatment aproaches called neuromuscular therapy or NMT.

Trigger point therapy is said to interrupt the neural signals that cause both the trigger point and the pain. The object is to eliminate pain and to re-educate the muscles into pain-free habits. In this manner, the swelling and stiffness of neuromuscular pain is reduced, range of motion is increased, and flexibility and coordination are improved. The therapy can also relieve tension and improve circulation.

Some conditions that benefit from trigger point therapy include arthritis; carpal tunnel syndrome ; chronic pain in the back, knees, and shoulders; headaches; menstrual cramps; multiple sclerosis ; muscle spasms, tension, and weakness; postoperative pain; sciatica ; temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ); tendinitis ; and whiplash injuries.

Deep Tissue Therapy

Deep tissue therapy is a form of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders. The movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain.

Then there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation.

Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement. To do this, the massage therapist often uses direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles.

 Relaxation or Swedish Massage

Swedish massage involves the use of hands, forearms or elbows to manipulate the superficial layers of the muscles to improve mental and physical health. Active or passive movement of the joints may also be part of the massage. The benefits of Swedish massage include increased blood circulation, mental and physical relaxation , decreased stress and muscle tension, and improved range of motion.

There are numerous benefits associated with the use of Swedish massage such as loosening tight muscles and stretching connective tissues, relieving cramps and muscle spasms, decreasing fatigue, loosening joints and improving range of motion, increasing muscle strength, calming the nervous system, stimulating blood circulation, firming up muscle and skin tone, relieving symptoms of such disorders as asthma , arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome , chronic and acute pain syndromes, myofacial pain, headache , temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, and athletic injuries, speeding up healing from injury and illness and improving lymphatic drainage of metabolic wastes.

Injury Prevention Management & Rehabilitation

Together with any of the above mentioned soft tissue therapies we can perform physical assessment. Using sports, exercise & physiology principles, we are able to optimise body mechanics, fitness & efficiency of movement to assist in the prevention, management & rehabilitation of injuries, be it sporting or otherwise.

These services can be provided within the clinic or in the field and can be organised for a small group setting with arrangement.
